Selecting a remodeling business to remodel your home can be a very hard decision! Home remodeling costs a lot of money and we spend a lot of time in our homes so we want to make sure it turns out great! So who should I hire for my next kitchen, bathroom, or entire home remodel? That’s a question many, many people here in Wichita, KS are asking. And once you know what a Design/Build company is, you’ll realize that it is the obvious answer.
Pinnacle Homes is what you call a Design/Build or Design/Remodel company. Basically, we are a one-stop-shop for the entire remodel or build project, starting with design, all the way through the last door knob. We take your initial idea and work through our design process with our design and construction team to develop a great design within your target budget. Then, our construction team builds the job. There are many benefits to this which we will outline below. But first, let us share our experience and some of the detriments we have seen when working with outside designers/architects.
Non Design/Build:
We recently worked with an architect on a commercial building we had built and it was frustrating! First of all, it took months to complete the design portion of the project. Second, the construction was not designed
in a cost effective way – it was obvious that the designer didn’t have real construction experience. Third, we paid them to help us with selections for fixtures, etc, but the schedule we received was a bunch of overpriced fixtures. We ended up pivoting from the fixture list and essentially had to “design” it again ourselves with new, affordable fixtures. We’re not saying the architect was bad. In fact, they were pretty good architects, but the problem in our minds was that they needed someone else on their team – a construction professional!
There are other ways of getting your project done for sure. A popular option is to hire an architect or designer who will develop your design. Then send your job out to multiple contractors so they can provide bids for the design. You then select your contractor and start the project. Alternatively, some people elect to skip the designer and leave that portion to the general contractor. This is highly advised against!
We believe it works best if the design and the construction are on one team. Here are the benefits:
- Seamlessness: Taking the entire job through a proven process from start to finish will ensure small details are caught early on!
- Budget: In order for your remodel to stay within budget, it is best if design and construction can work together on the design. The design team knows how to make things look awesome, and the construction team can keep the design realistic with real construction numbers.
- Greater Accountability: If the design and the construction are two different companies, finger pointing could occur. Most often the homeowner gets stuck with extra invoices on which they were not planning. As a Design/Remodel business, the accountability stops with us.
- Greater communication: Because our designers and construction team work at the same location, we can ensure constant communication. Additionally, our design to construction handoff process works extremely well to mitigate any potential issue the project could have.
