The City of Wichita, KS is the largest city in Kansas with the estimated population of 650,000 people in the metro area. The aircraft production industry transformed the city into “The Air Capital of the World.”
In 2013 the Wichita State Shockers led by coach Greg Marshall helped put Wichita on the country’s radar with its Final Four appearance in the NCAA tournament. The city was filled with Black and Gold clothing showing its pride and support for the Wichita State Shockers.
Every year, more than 450,000 people gather to participate in the best that the city of Wichita has to offer – River Fest. River Fest is a large attraction in Wichita during the summer. The festival features music, athletic contests, water activities, performing and visual arts, and of course – the best food of Wichita.
In the picture above, the Keeper of the Plains is a 44’ tall sculpture created by Wichitan and Native American artist Blackbear Rosin. The sculpture is located in downtown Wichita. The city has enhanced the 5-ton steel statue with a 30-foot- tall stone platform. The statue along with the two suspension bridges and walking paths brings people of Wichita out on a daily basis.
